Every imaginative individual has dreamt of travelling the world. Everyone has their own personal reason for wanting to go away from their daily life and venture out, and like everyone, I’ve always been fond of travelling as well. The thought of meeting new people and exploring new places has always fascinated me in some way and I got to experience exactly that this past Dashain.
I have had a bucket list of the places that I want to visit for the longest time, and one of them was the ABC (Annapurna Base Camp) which I got to complete. It was an amazing experience that I got to share with the amazing people I met on the journey. I’m an ambivert, meaning I’m equal parts introvert and extrovert, so if I get along with you, you’ll know how I am and you’ll want me to shut up but if you’re a stranger it will take some time for me to open up. This travelling experience put me in a situation where I had to push myself out of my own comfort zone, and therefore, it was definitely a life changing experience. You may wonder how this could have changed my life in any way but the people that I met, the stories that I heard and the struggles I saw in the locals and the way they go about their daily lives made me feel grateful for the things I have easy access to.
We trekked for 7 days, starting from Ghandruk and going along the route as such: Ghandruk-Chommrong-Dovan-MBC-ABC-Dovan-Chommrong-Pokhara-KTM. Each day was full of newer adventures and lessons along the way. The trek was relatively easy, and coming from a person who would rather take a micro than walk for 10 minutes, this should be very reassuring. There were some major ups and downs along the path which were tough, but besides that, it was plain for the most part. The only difficulty I had was while going up to MBC, where (thanks to my lazy self who doesn’t go anywhere) I got affected by the altitude sickness and had to rest for about 4 hours to get to MBC. One of the highlights of the trip was sleeping in the tent under the mountains. That’s something that I will never forget. The day we were going to ABC, we woke up at 4 in the morning. I can’t believe I of all people was able to wake up at 4, but as they say, “If you want something by heart, you will do anything to make it happen” and I guess this was one of those things for me. Reaching ABC was not only about the destination but also about showing myself that I can do the things I dream of.
ABC was beautiful. The view of the snowcapped mountains and the mesmerizing view of the sun striking the mountains. Looking at it made me realize how important life is, and how important and fruitful travelling can be. As they say it’s not only about travelling it’s about the lessons you learn and the memories you make, I feel like I definitely did all of that and some more. ABC, You were an honor to experience.
